Belly Casting

What is Belly Casting?

Belly Casting is a beautiful and unique way to capture the special bond between birthing parent and baby. It is a special 3-D snapshot of a your pregnancy that you and your family can treasure forever. Belly casts make great centerpiece a for a baby shower, nursery decorations, or wall hangings. Your children will love to see “their belly” where they lived before they were born!

Your cast can include belly only as a “belly bowl”, belly and breasts, or you can even include your partner’s hands! I will provide all of the materials needed.

Casting is done in the comfort of your own home, usually during the final month of pregnancy. Your cast will be constructed of high-quality plaster casting strips, that will be moistened to contour to your body. Once the cast dries, it is removed and then prepared to your specifications. Your cast can be left plain, or primed and painted to match your baby’s nursery, with a fun design, with baby’s name, or countless other ways.

The Process

Belly casting is typically done in the final month of pregnancy. You can choose how much of your body you would like casted.

Petroleum jelly, or olive/grapeseed oil is used on the skin before casting to prevent sticking. We can place the cast over bare skin (best results), or over your bra if you prefer. (Plaster should wash out with regular laundering, but you may prefer to wear clothes that you don’t mind damaging just in case.)

I will provide a drop cloth to protect the area; you will want to find a comfortable place to sit or stand, as the process typically takes about an hour. (The casting usually works better if you are standing.)

After the cast dries, it is removed and prepared to your specifications. (See packages below)
